About the competition

If you are:

  • Aged 20 – 35
  • Enrolled at a South African higher education institution or working at an SA science council

... write a 700-word article in plain English on any scientific or science-related subject, preferably in your own research field, to inform and entertain the readers of Saturday Star or

... send a script (maximum 1 500 words) on any scientific or science-related subject, preferably in your own research field, for a 5 minute audio drama to be inserted as an item on SAfm's science programme, Science Matters. The three finalists in this category will have their material produced and pre-recorded for broadcast.

Organised and sponsored by the South African Agency for Science and Technology Advancement, Saturday Star, and SAfm. The special prizes for the best genetics and related research article and script are sponsored by the Public Understanding of Biotechnology programme and the Southern African Society for Human Genetics.
