Science and Technology Networks

The S&T Networks programme mainly covers projects and initiatives of the Department of Science and Technology that relate to the provision of skills and capacity to the science centre community in the country.

The programme covers a number of projects such as Science Centre Capacity Building (SCCB) and the development of a new network of science centres.

The SCCB project has been conducted in phases. Phase 1 of this project was implemented with the science centre community nationally and it covered the following workshops:

  • Project Management,
  • Project Proposal Writing,
  • Finance for Non Financial Managers,
  • Marketing Management, and
  • Networking Skills

Phase 2 of SCCB has been partially implemented. Science show workshops were conducted at various venues countrywide.

The following workshops in this phase still need to be conducted within 2007/8 financial year:

  • Floor Management in a Science Centre:
    • Science Shows,
    • Volunteering, and
    • Explaining.
  • Exhibit Management:
    • Integrating Science and Arts,
    • Appearance, and
    • Exhibitions.
  • Development of Exhibitions:
    • Prototyping,
    • Improvisation, and
    • Fabrication.

Through the Network programme, it is hoped that there will be an increase in networks among the science centres locally and internationally, while at the same time a remarkable capacity is developed among them.
