African ministers agree reform of science education |

August 2006 - Science and technology teaching must undergo reform at all levels of African educational systems, according to a ten-year plan adopted by the continent's education ministers. The ministers approved the African Union's 2006-2015 plan of action for education at a meeting last week (2-4 August) in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. |

May 2006 - The Public Understanding of Biotechnology programme has released some new illustrative posters including one on wetlands, a poster explaining how and why farmers practice selective breeding and one on biotechnology and medicinal plants. These valuable teaching aids are free to download and use.

2005/6 SA Science Lens winners announced! |

April 2006 - Yet again, the SA Science Lens photography competition was highly
successful. This round attracted 439 entries of a very high standard.
Entries were received from all over South Africa from professional and
amateur photographers, communicators, school learners, teachers, and
research scientists.

February 2006 - The fourth round of the SA Science Lens competition has been highly successful. The competition attracted hundreds of visually exciting and interesting entries. This is South Africa's only photographic competition specifically aimed at illustrating and communicating the excitement and impact of science. The judging will be taking please at the end of February 2006. Thank you to all who entered! |

Name the Satellite Challenge |

January 2006 - Learners in grades 7 to 12 are invited to name South Africa's second micro satellite. South Africa is currently building its second micro satellite as part of an integrated space programme. This satellite will need a name when it is launched later this year … and you can decide on that name! You can win a computer or a visit to the construction of the satellite. Celebrate South Africa's space programme … and our new micro satellite! |
